Synopsis: Obesity involves a state of chronic “low-grade” inflammation in adipose tissue, which predisposes to obesity-related comorbidities, such as insulin resistance and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Although omega-6 PUFA–derived proinflammatory eicosanoids initially trigger the inflammatory response, in time, there is a switch to the formation of anti-inflammatory and proresolving omega-3 PUFA–derived lipid autacoids, such as resolvins and protectins, which participate in the resolution of adipose tissue inflammation and in preventing the development of obesity-related complications.

Synopsis: Resolvins are newly identified lipid mediators that are endogenously biosynthesized from omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in the course of acute inflammation and its resolution. Resolvins regulate immune cell functions and display potent anti-inflammatory properties both in vitro and in vivo. This review focuses on the chemical structure, biosynthesis, and bioactivities of resolvins in regulating immune systems.

Synopsis: We report the unusual case of a supra-acetabular brown tumor due to a hyperfunctioning parathyroid adenoma localized in the mediastinum, which illustrates the importance of considering chronic renal failure as a possible underlying cause of normocalcemic primary hyperparathyroidism.

Reversible Renal Insufficiency Secondary to Extrinsic Splenic Compression of the Kidney in a Patient with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia

  Authors:

Synopsis: Research in the medical and psychological fields has primarily followed a “disease-focused” approach to health. Although there is growing research on the components and outcomes of well-being, very few studies have focused on interventions that produce optimal functioning and human flourishing. This observational study was developed to address this research gap by considering the salutogentic effects of a yoga program and found that improvement can occur even from a baseline of health.
